How to add a date to a PDF
You can add a date to any PDF in a minute by typing it with the Add text tool. This guide shows the steps, how to line it up with a signature, and what the editor cannot do automatically.

The short answer
Open the PDF in EasyPDFPlay, select Add text, click where the date belongs, and type it. Then select Download PDF. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark.
Step by step
- Open your PDF in the upload box on the home page.
- Select Add text in the toolbar.
- Click the spot for the date, for example the “Date” line next to a signature, and type it in the format the document asks for.
- Match the surroundings. In the text options, choose a font and a size close to the nearby text (sizes run from 8 to 64), and set the colour.
- Add your signature if you need one. See how to sign a PDF. Click the signature spot, then drag it so it sits level with the date.
- Download the PDF. Open it once before sending and check that the date is where you expect.
Choosing a date format
Read the form’s instructions first. In the US, month/day/year is common, while many other countries write day/month/year, so 03/04/2026 can mean two different dates. If the form does not say, writing the month in words (for example 4 March 2026) avoids confusion.
What this method does not do
- It types a fixed date. There is no automatic “today” field and no date that updates itself.
- It does not stamp every page. To date several pages, add the text on each page.
- It does not create a fillable date field that other people can click and fill in later.
- To change an existing date that is already printed in the PDF, use Edit text instead.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add a date to a scanned PDF?
Yes. The date is placed on top of the page, so it works on scans and on flat PDFs with no form fields. If you cannot type into a field in another viewer, adding text over the date line is the usual workaround.
Can I put the date and signature in one pass?
Yes. Add the date with Add text, then use Add signature and place it beside the date. Download once at the end.
I made a mistake. Can I fix it?
Use Undo before you download. If you have already downloaded, open your original and repeat the steps, since the edited copy is a new file.
Does adding a date upload my PDF?
No. The PDF is opened and edited in your browser and saved to your device.
