Whiteout PDF Online: Cover Text and Fix Mistakes for Free

How to whiteout text in a PDF

Open your PDF
Choose the file in the upload box on the home page, or drag it onto the page. It opens in your browser.
Select Whiteout
Pick Whiteout in the toolbar. The editor shows the hint “Drag to cover content with a white box.”
Drag over the content
Drag across the text, date, amount or mark you want to cover. Use Undo if the box is in the wrong place and draw it again.
Type the correction on top (optional)
Choose Add text and click on the white box to type the replacement.
Select Download PDF
The finished copy is saved to your device. Your original file is not changed.

What whiteout is good for

Fix a mistake without retyping the page

Cover a wrong date, price or name with a white box, then place the correct text on top. This works even on scanned PDFs, where the text itself cannot be edited.

Blank out a field or a line

Hide a line you do not want on a printed copy, or clear a spot where you plan to write by hand. For text that exists as real text in the PDF, editing the PDF text may give a cleaner result.

Tidy up a form before you sign

Cover an old entry, add the new one with Add text, then sign the PDF in the same session and download once.

Private while you work

The PDF is opened, covered and saved inside your browser. It is not sent to our servers. You can confirm this by watching your browser’s network tab.

Whiteout is not the same as redaction

What whiteout does

It draws a white shape over part of the page. Anyone looking at the page sees blank space.

What it does not do

It does not delete the text or image underneath. The original words may still exist in the file and could be found by selecting text, searching, copying or opening the file in another tool. The same is true of the Box tool.

If you need to remove sensitive information

Do not rely on whiteout for anything you plan to share, such as ID numbers, account details or private addresses. Use a dedicated redaction tool that removes the underlying content, then open the saved file in a PDF viewer and search for the words to confirm they are gone. EasyPDFPlay does not offer redaction.

Limits you should know about

Whiteout and Box cover content visually. The underlying text may still exist in the file, so do not use them to hide sensitive information you plan to share.
The cover is white. On a coloured or patterned background the box will be visible.
Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.
Once you download a copy, work from your original if you want a different result.

Does whiteout permanently remove text from a PDF?

No. Whiteout covers content visually, but the underlying text may still exist in the file. Do not rely on it to hide sensitive information you plan to share.

Can I type new text over the white box?

Yes. After covering the old content, use Add text and click on the box to type the replacement.

Can I whiteout a scanned PDF?

Yes. The white box is placed on top of the page, so it works on scans too. The text on a scanned page cannot be edited, but you can cover it and add new text above it.

Is my PDF uploaded when I use whiteout?

No. The file is opened and edited in your browser and saved on your device.

Is it free, and is there a watermark?

Yes, it is free. There is no sign-up and no watermark on the downloaded file.

Can I undo a whiteout box?

Yes. Use Undo while you work. After you download a copy, start again from your original file.
